On 16 April 2020, Young Veteran’s Support Service profiled Australian Veteran Owned Business (AVOB), Gold Coast Barrister and Mediator, Nathan Laing. The article reads:
VETERAN OWNED BUSINESS PROFILE:
Nathan Laing, Gold Coast Barrister and Mediator – (07) 5618 8218 / NJL@qldbar.asn.au
Nathan first joined the Royal Australian Navy in 2012, commissioning as a Sub-Lieutenant, however he quickly transferred into the Australian Army, commencing at the Royal Military College – Duntroon, where he undertook six months of officer training, but ultimately graduating the Officer Cadet School of NZ, following his being selected to undertake an exchange.
Commissioning as a Lieutenant and following qualification in the Royal Australian Infantry Corps, Nathan served for two years in the Second Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment (2 RAR), before becoming a Military Instructor at 1 Recruit Training Battalion (1 RTB). He transferred to become a Legal Officer, and spent the remainder of his service as a Captain at Headquarters, 1 Brigade.
Combining his military experience with his other employment roles as a solicitor and police officer, Nathan discharged from the ADF and commenced practise as a Barrister and Mediator in 2019. In this role, he works as an advocate in a variety of dispute areas, including criminal, family, administrative and civil law. He is passionate about assisting current and former service persons with their legal disputes, as sometimes having a legal representative who actually understands service life and its impacts, and is able to communicate that clearly to a court, can have a meaningful impact on how cases are determined.
Nathan is pleased to assist current and former service persons with any nature of dispute, and if he doesn’t know the answer, he will be in a great position to point to who might.
